The Kielsen I cabinet was the 19th government in Greenland . It existed from December 2014 to October 2016.

Origin and existence

After the parliamentary elections at the end of November 2014 , observers expected that the social democratic Siumut would either agree on a grand coalition with the socialist Inuit Ataqatigiit, who was equally strong in terms of seats, or on the formation of a government with the separatist Partii Naleraq . Corresponding negotiations failed in particular because of the issue of uranium mining , which Siumut wanted to take up directly, but the potential partners only after holding a referendum. In October 2013, the Greenland parliament lifted a ban that had been in place for 25 years, particularly occurrences in the Narsaq area were affected . Instead, the Siumut, the liberal Demokraatit and the conservative Atassut agreed on a coalition government. The coalition agreement was signed on December 11, 2014 and the ministerial posts announced. Kim Kielsen from Siumut became Prime Minister . After the resignation of his predecessor Aleqa Hammond at the beginning of October 2014, he provisionally assumed this position .

In November 2015, Anda Uldum initially took a leave of absence for three months. Vittus Qujaukitsoq took over his area of work and retained responsibility for external affairs, but in return handed over work, labor market and trade to Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen, who was newly appointed to the cabinet . After Anda Uldum announced in mid-January 2016 that he was withdrawing from Greenlandic politics, an exchange took place with effect from February 2, 2016: Vittus Qujaukitsoq was given back his old responsibilities and Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen took over the finance department, which was originally responsible for Uldum and raw materials. On May 23, 2016, Karl-Kristian Kruse resigned voluntarily and was replaced by Nikolaj Jeremiassen . In the course of this, the justice department was handed over from Mala Høy Kúko to Martha Lund Olsen .

In autumn 2016, the government broke up, among other things the decisive factors were differences in the planned new construction of the parliament building and in subsidizing remote settlements. Kim Kielsen then formed a new coalition of Siumut, Inuit Ataqatigiit and Partii Naleraq. The coalition agreement of the three parties was signed on October 27, 2016, and the second Kielsen cabinet began its work.
