Nikolaj "Nikkulaat" Jeremiassen (born February 19, 1961 in Niaqornaarsuk ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Nikolaj Jeremiassen is a hunter and fisherman. From 2000 until its dissolution in 2008, he sat on the council of the Kangaatsiaq community , at that time still for the Atassut . He could not get a seat in the new Qaasuitsup Communia . Likewise, he failed to get a place in the Inatsisartut in 2005 and 2009 . In the 2013 election , he entered parliament for the first time with 176 votes. In the same year he failed in the local elections, but defended his seat in Inatsisartut with 221 votes in the parliamentary election the following year . After Karl-Kristian Kruse left the Naalakkersuisut , Nikolaj Jeremiassen was appointed his successor as Minister for Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture in the Kielsen I cabinet in May 2016 , where he remained until the government was replaced by the Kielsen II cabinet . Since the local elections in 2017, he has also been a member of the Qeqertalik Municipality Council . In the 2018 parliamentary elections , he reached third place for the Siumut and eventually slipped into Inatsisartut, as four members of the party's parliament were appointed ministers.

In October 2018 he was reappointed Minister of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture for the Kielsen IV cabinet . At the beginning of 2019 he came under fire because his statements on sustainable fishing and overfishing were perceived as contradicting. On March 28, the Inuit Ataqatigiit submitted a vote of no confidence, which was rejected by parliamentary leader Vivian Motzfeldt for formal reasons. On April 5, the Fisheries Committee also expressed its distrust in him. After the majority of the parties had also done the same, he voluntarily resigned from his office on April 9, while the Atassut also left the government at the same time . Since then he has been a member of parliament again. After Erik Jensen had also left the government, Nikolaj Jeremiassen left parliament on May 1, 2020 when Laura Táunâjik's vacation expired .

In 2016 he proposed to rename Greenland to Inuit Nunaat (land of the people / Inuit), regardless of the fact that Inuit also live in Canada and Alaska .

Nikolaj Jeremiassen was awarded the Nersornaat in silver on November 2nd, 2006 . He has four children with his wife Kristianne.
