The Kielsen IV cabinet was the 22nd government in Greenland . It was formed as a minority government after the Partii Naleraq left the previous coalition and thus deprived the governing parties of the majority.

Origin, Existence and Decay

After the parliamentary elections in April 2018 , a coalition of Siumut , Partii Naleraq , Atassut and Nunatta Qitornai was formed. In protest, the Partii Naleraq terminated the coalition in September, making the Kielsen III cabinet incapable of government. Prime Minister Kim Kielsen began negotiations on September 21 with the Inuit Ataqatigiit and the Demokraatit to achieve a new majority. He had until September 28, before new elections would be called without a new coalition or Sara Olsvig would be tasked with forming an Inuit Ataqatigiit-led government. On September 24th, Sara Olsvig declared the coalition talks on the part of the IA to have failed because of too great differences within the Siumut. Talks between the Siumut and the Demokraatit under Niels Thomsen were scheduled for September 26th . The talks were then assessed as constructive and the President of the Parliament, Hans Enoksen, had the Inatsisartut autumn session postponed to October 3 so that the coalition talks could end in peace. On September 28, the Democraatit also declared that they would not form a coalition, also because of the quarrels within the Siumut. Instead, they pledged to tolerate a minority government of Siumut, Atassut and Nunatta Qitornai.

While Inuit Ataqatigiit and Partii Naleraq clearly criticized the planned formation of the government, Suleqatigiissitsisut spoke out in favor. Finally, Kim Kielsen, Siverth K. Heilmann and Vittus Qujaukitsoq signed the coalition agreement on October 2nd. The cabinet list was announced on October 5th.

After just under two weeks, Doris J. Jensen had to resign after she was informed of the distrust of parliament because of the misuse of her fuel card. After a month and a half, Simon Simonsen resigned for private reasons. In addition, Siverth K. Heilmann was on sick leave from November 2018 to March 2019.

On April 9, 2019, the Atassut left the government out of dissatisfaction. In addition, the majority of the parties had informed Minister Aqqalu Jerimiassen of their distrust, as he did not consider climate change to be man-made. At the same time, Nikolaj Jeremiassen resigned after he was also distrusted because he could not answer the question about possible overfishing without contradiction.
