Aqqalu Clasen Jerimiassen [ ˈɑqːalu klæːsn̩ ˌjeɐ̯iˈmiːæsn̩ ] (born July 24, 1986 ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Atassut ).

Life

Aqqalu Jerimiassen worked as a hotel employee in Ilulissat and Qaqortoq from 2009 to 2011 . From 2011 to 2013 he was senior assistant to the tax administration, then worked again for three years at the Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat. In 2016 he was appointed tourism consultant to Qaasuitsup Kommunia . From 2017 to 2018 he was co-owner of Ilulissat Water Safari . In May 2017 he was appointed Vice Mayor of the Avannaata Kommunia, which will exist from 2018 .

In the 2018 parliamentary election he won a seat in the Inatsisartut and was subsequently appointed Minister for Labor, Trade and Energy in the Kielsen III cabinet. In April 2019, he stated that he did not assume that climate change was man-made. The statement sparked indignation from all parties and the majority expressed suspicion in him. The Atassut used this as an opportunity to leave the coalition. Vice-party chairman Qulutannguaq Berthelsen said that the government only harmed the party. Aqqalu Jerimiassen then took his seat in parliament.

On November 9, 2019, Aqqalu Jerimiassen was appointed chairman of the Atassut as the successor to Siverth K. Heilmann . Thereupon he announced a clear change of course, whereby the Atassut should go back to its anti-separatist original principles.

Aqqalu Jerimiassen is the nephew of Palle Jerimiassen , the mayor of the Avannaata Kommunia. With his wife Najattaaq Mørch Jerimiassen, Aqqalu has two children, Tira (* 2013) and Mads (* 2016).
