Siverth K. Heilmann

Siverth Karl Heilmann (born August 8, 1953 in Maniitsoq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Atassut ) and police officer .

Life

Heilmann grew up as a hunter and fisherman and worked for the police from 1973. In 1989 he became director of a fishing company. His political career began that same year when he was elected to the Maniitsoq Town Council for four years . For the next four years he served on the cultural committee and in the insurance sector, as well as mayor of Maniitsoq, before joining the local council again. In addition, from 1995 he sat for two legislative terms in the Greenland parliament Inatsisartut . In 2001 he was again mayor of Maniitsoq for four years. In 2005 he became Minister for Trade, Labor and Education in Naalakkersuisut . In 2009 the Atassut went into opposition. After the 2013 election, Heilmann was appointed Minister of Housing, but the government resigned in 2014. After the next election, he moved into parliament again from the first place in which he was replacing; with the departure of Atassut at the end of 2016, he also left the government.

In February 2017 he was elected chairman of the Atassut. He was re-elected to parliament in 2018. In October 2018 he was appointed Minister for the Environment, Nature and Research in the Kielsen IV cabinet after the Partii Naleraq had left the previous coalition. At the end of the month he had to be admitted to hospital spontaneously and could not continue to hold ministerial office for the time being, so that he was represented by Erik Jensen . He was only able to resume his office in March 2019. A month later, however, the Atassut also left the coalition and he took his seat in parliament again. After the Folketing elections in 2019 , the vice-chairman Qulutannguaq Berthelsen and the incumbent Bentiaraq Ottosen demanded the resignation of Siverth K. Heilmann as party chairman because of the poor election results in their opinion, which he rejected. In August 2019, he stated that he wanted to give up the office of party chairman at the next party congress.

Siverth K. Heilmann is the son of Samson Diderik Søren John Heilmann (* 1927) and his wife Sofie Margrethe Karoline Kristiane Rasmussen (1928-2016). He is a descendant of Arent Christopher Heilmann . He has four children with his wife Amalie.
