Vittus Qujaukitsoq [ ˈvid̪us quˈjaːˌkit͡sːɔq ] (born October 5, 1971 in Qaanaaq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Nunatta Qitornai ).

Life

Vittus is the son of the politician Ûssarĸak K'ujaukitsoĸ (1948–2018) and the kitchen assistant Inger Kristiansen (* 1946). On his mother's side, he is the nephew of Benedigte Thorsteinsson (* 1950) and the great-nephew of Nikolaj Rosing (1912–1976). He is married to Naja Kreutzmann Qujaukitsoq and has one grown daughter. In 1993 he trained as a translator and interpreter at the Niuernermik Ilinniarfik Business School in Nuuk . However, he only practiced this profession for a year before he became secretary in politics and economics, such as B. at the companies KNI , Royal Greenland and Nukissiorfiit , and at Siumut and in various ministries in Naalakkersuisut .

In 2011 he was elected second vice chairman of the Siumut. In 2013 he ran for parliamentary elections and won a seat in the Inatsisartut with 205 votes . After the election, Aleqa Hammond appointed him Minister of Finance and Interior, and thus resigned from his seat in Parliament, in line with a new tradition. After a year, the government failed and Vittus Qujaukitsoq was only able to achieve 87 votes in the election , which means that he clearly missed a seat in the Inatsisartut. However, he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Labor, Labor and Trade by the new Prime Minister Kim Kielsen .

From November 2015 to February 2016, he was Minister for Foreign Affairs, Finance and Raw Materials on a substitute basis. After another coalition collapse, a new cabinet was formed under Kielsen in October 2016, in which Vittus Qujaukitsoq became Minister for Labor, Labor, Trade, Energy and Foreign Affairs.

He resigned as minister in April 2017. At the end of 2016 he had to take a lot of criticism for calling Denmark "arrogant". A little later, Qujaukitsoq justified his decision with the fact that Kielsen wanted to withdraw the Foreign Ministry from him. In May 2017 he was appointed chairman of the Siumut in Nuuk. In July 2017, he also ran for national party chairmanship, but lost 19 to 48 votes to Prime Minister Kielsen.

In September he left the Siumut out of dissatisfaction with the lack of progress towards independence. For his new party Nunatta Qitornai he was able to deliver the 942 votes required for the line-up for the Inatsisartut election in 2018 at the beginning of February 2018, but it was announced in March that some votes had been canceled. A little later he was able to hand in enough signatures. In the election, the Nunatta Qitornai received 3.4% of the vote, which was enough for a seat in the Inatsisartut. Vittus Qujaukitsoq received this with 634 votes. After the coalition negotiations that followed, he was appointed Minister for Raw Materials, Labor Market, Home Affairs, Constitution and Independence in the Kielsen III cabinet. When the Partii Naleraq left the government in September, Vittus Qujaukitsoq also took over the interim Ministry of Finance from Pele Broberg . At the beginning of October he was appointed Minister for Finance and Nordic Cooperation in the Kielsen IV cabinet. As finance minister, he pushed through the financing of the new Greenland airports. He also retained his previous departments in the Kielsen V cabinet . On November 22, 2019, he received the resource department from Erik Jensen , who had resigned. In the course of this he handed over the area of Nordic cooperation to Ane Lone Bagger . He was reappointed finance minister in the Kielsen VI cabinet .
