Kim Marius Kielsen (born November 30, 1966 in Paamiut ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ). He has been Prime Minister of Greenland since 2014 .

Life

Early life

Kim Kielsen is the son of the local politician Anders Kielsen (1937-2010), who was mayor of the municipality of Paamiut from 1989 to 1993 , and his wife Inge († 2017). His father was the illegitimate son of the Danish seaman Willy Juul Andersen (1911-1981), who was involved in the rescue of the Danish Jews with his boat during the Second World War and also belonged to the resistance in Porsgrunn, Norway . He and his wife Judithe have two children.

In 1983, at the age of 17, he began training as a ship assistant. He then went on to work as a seaman for KNI . In 1993, he began training as a police officer in Nuuk to follow in the footsteps of his father, who was also a police officer. From 1996 he worked as a police officer in Upernavik and his hometown Paamiut . In 2003 he took a leave of absence to become the coordinator of a social project for children and young people.

Political career

In 2005 he was elected to both the Paamiut Parish Council and Inatsisartut . In 2007 he was appointed Minister for Housing, Infrastructure and Raw Materials under Hans Enoksen . In 2008 he changed the housing department to the environment. In 2009 he was re-elected to the Inatsisartut, as in 2013. After the departure of the Minister for Housing, Nature and Environment Miiti Lynge , her portfolio was divided. Kielsen became Minister for Nature and the Environment and Nordic Cooperation on November 5, 2013. After the resignation of other ministers on October 1, 2014, he also took over the housing ministry from Siverth K. Heilmann .

At the same time he became interim head of government for the resigned Aleqa Hammond . He then took over the party chairmanship from her and was appointed Prime Minister after the 2014 general election. He formed a coalition government with the Demokraatit and the Atassut and also served as interior minister. In 2016 the coalition broke up and Kim Kielsen formed a new one from Inuit Ataqatigiit and Partii Naleraq . From April 2017 he was again Minister for Nature and the Environment.

He was re-elected in April 2018. He then formed a cabinet with the Partii Naleraq , the Atassut and the Nunatta Qitornai , where he continued to be nature and environment minister. In September of the same year, the Partii Naleraq left the government and Kim Kielsen negotiated a minority government with the support of Demokraatit. In April 2019, the Atassut also left the government and Kim Kielsen took over the nature and environment ministry again. In May 2020, the Democrats entered the government and Kim Kielsen formed his sixth cabinet.

Kim Kielsen received the Nersornaat in gold on September 17th, 2014 . In 2018 he was made a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog .
