Hans Enoksen (2008)

Hans Enoksen (born August 7, 1956 in Itilleq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Partii Naleraq ). He was Prime Minister of Greenland from 2002 to 2009 .

Life

job

Hans Enoksen trained in the trade. From 1980 he worked as a businessman in various villages in Greenland. From 1979 to 1983 he was a member of the parish council of his home village Itilleq. From 1997 to 1998 he was chairman of the Association of Village Merchants. From 2000 to 2001 he headed the village association KANUNUPE before he briefly became chairman of KANUKOKA, but gave up the office again in the same year because of his ministerial post.

Political career in the Siumut

He began his political career in 1987 for the Siumut in the local council of Itilleq. In 1989 he was elected to the Sisimiut Municipality Council. In 1995 he was first elected to the Inatsisartut . In 1997, he also became Vice Mayor of the Sisimiut community. In 1998 he was interim mayor for six months when Simon Olsen was on leave. In 2001 he was appointed party chairman of the Siumut and minister for fisheries, hunting and villages. After the 2002 election he became Prime Minister of Greenland. His tenure was fraught with crises and he initially formed three different governments in ten months. In 2005 he was re-elected. During his tenure, he worked on extending Greenland's autonomy from the Hjemmestyre to the Selvstyre , which came into effect shortly after his term of office ended on June 21, 2009. In the 2009 parliamentary election, however, Hans Enoksen and his party were punished and for the first time in Greenland's history lost power to the Inuit Ataqatigiit under Kuupik Kleist . As a consequence, he resigned as party chairman and handed over the chairmanship to Aleqa Hammond .

Political career in the Partii Naleraq

In 2014, Hans Enoksen broke with his party under clear attacks on their fisheries policy. The occasion was the appointment of the Prime Minister's partner as advisor to the Minister of Fisheries. Shortly thereafter he founded the Partii Naleraq , for which he moved back to Inatsisartut after the 2014 election. In October 2016 he was appointed Minister for Fisheries and Hunting. In April 2017 he moved to the Ministry of Labor, Labor Market, Trade and Energy. In 2018 he was President of Parliament for a few months.

Others

Enoksen insists itself only Greenlandic speaking (Kalaallisut), although he reportedly like most Greenlanders the Danish language well controlled.

Hans Enoksen has four children with his wife Aaliaaraq.

On April 16, 2004 he received the Nersornaat in gold. In the same year he received the Dannebrogorden .
