Sara Johanne Kruse Olsvig (born September 26, 1978 in Nuuk ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Inuit Ataqatigiit ).

Life

Sara Olsvig is the daughter of Lars and Anne Mette Olsvig. She is unmarried, but has a daughter named Navarana with the architect Johan Rosbach.

In 1996 she was the ship's assistant on the training ship Georg Stage . In 1998 she finished school in Frederikshavn . She then began studying cultural and social history at the University of Greenland , which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2002. She then did her candidate in anthropology at the University of Copenhagen until 2008 . From 2005 to 2011 she represented the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) at the United Nations and has been human rights coordinator and most recently managing director of the ICC since 2009.

She ran in the 2011 Folketing election and received more than a third of all votes, which earned her a place in the Folketing . She also ran for the Inatsisartut election in 2013 and received the third most votes of all candidates in her party and thus a seat in the Inatsisartut . In the new elections in the following year , it even received the most votes of all candidates. In the same year she also succeeded Kuupik Kleist in office as party leader, whereupon she took leave of absence in the Folketing, whereby Johan Lund Olsen took her place. In 2016 she was appointed Minister for Family, Equality, Social Affairs and Justice in the Kielsen II cabinet, while keeping her Inatsisartut mandate. In the 2018 parliamentary elections , it again received the most votes of all candidates.

On October 29, 2018, Olsvig announced the end of her political activity and resigned as party leader and MP. The main reason she cited was her dissatisfaction with the political climate in Greenland. Múte B. Egede was elected as her successor as chairman of Inuit Ataqatigiit on December 1st .
