Simon Simonsen

Karl Aron Kristoffer Simon Simonsen (born October 16, 1961 in Nanortalik ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ), teacher and former football player , coach and cross-country skier .

Life

Simon Simonsen began an apprenticeship as an aircraft mechanic at Grønlandsfly in 1980 , which he completed in 1983. He then began another apprenticeship as a telephone fitter at TELE Greenland . In 1986 he began to train as a sports teacher in Aarhus . He then worked as an auxiliary sports teacher in the Tasersuup Atuarfia in Qaqortoq .

From 1989 to 1990 he attended the coaching school in Aalborg , during which time he was chairman and coach of K-1933 Qaqortoq , where he himself became Greenlandic Champion in 1987 and 1988, and from 1989 coach of the national football team for one year . In 1982 he had already become a champion in the 3 × 10 km relay cross-country skiing. From 1990 to 1992 he worked at KNI and as a hall assistant in the sports hall in Qaqortoq.

From 1992 to 1998 he retrained as a teacher, but then worked for a year as a cultural and club consultant for the Nuuk community, then was project manager of the Arctic Winter Games 2000 and then again hall assistant. From 1998 to 2000 he was Vice Chairman of Grønlands Boldspil Union . In 2001 he was elected to the Qaqortoq Municipality Council.

In 2005 he gave up his work as a hall assistant because he was appointed mayor. After the administrative reform in Greenland in 2009, he became the first mayor of Kujalleq municipality . From 2010 to 2013 he was also a board member at KANUKOKA . In 2013 he was replaced as mayor by Jørgen Wæver Johansen and started working as a teacher at Tasersuup Atuarfia. From 2016 to 2018 he was also chairman of KANUKOKA. In 2018 he ran for a seat in the Inatsisartut , was elected and then appointed Minister for Housing and Infrastructure in the Kielsen III cabinet. In October of the same year he received the same departments in the Kielsen IV cabinet . However, at the end of the same month, he called in sick for four weeks because of stress. Aqqalu Jerimiassen took over his ministry on an interim basis . After four weeks, Simon Simonsen resigned completely and resumed his parliamentary seat, while Karl Frederik Danielsen succeeded him in the ministry. At the end of March 2019, he also resigned from his parliamentary seat and returned to local politics.

Simon Simonsen and his wife Ellen have two children (* 1986, 1991), as well as a child born in his youth (* 1975) and three grandchildren.
