Mala Ole Gaba Kristian Høy Kúko [ maˈla ˈoːlə kaˈpa ˈkʁesti̯æn hʌi̯ ˈkukːu ] (born April 23, 1969 in Tasiilaq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Mala Høy Kúko attended school in Tasiilaq from 1976 to 1986 and then briefly went to the iron and metal school in Nuuk . In 1987 he was hired on a trawler . After further training in Skagen , he became a helmsman and later worked as a self-employed fisherman. From 2002 he was converted to a teacher and worked at the Tasiilap Alivarpia in Tasiilaq from 2006 to 2014 , and from 2012 as a prison teacher in Tasiilaq. He has five children with his wife Hilda.

In 2014 he successfully entered the Inatsisartut for the Atassut with 303 votes and was appointed Minister for Nature, Environment and Justice in the Kielsen I cabinet . In May 2016, he handed over the Ministry of Justice to Martha Lund Olsen , and his work area was expanded to include the energy department. Atassut left the government in October 2016. In April 2017 Mala Høy Kúko was elected to the municipal council of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq . In September 2017 he resigned from the Atassut, thus ensuring that the party neither had a mandate in the Inatsisartut nor in the council of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. Instead, he entered the Siumut.

In the 2018 parliamentary elections, he only reached the fourth place for the Siumut. However, this was enough to move into parliament, as the Siumut appointed four of its politicians elected to parliament to the Kielsen III cabinet . When Vivian Motzfeldt resigned from the cabinet on October 3 to become chairman of parliament, Mala Høy Kúko resigned from parliament. Only two days later, however, the Kielsen IV cabinet came into force and he came into parliament for the new minister Nikolaj Jeremiassen . On October 18, Doris J. Jensen left the government and Mala Høy Kúko was again ousted from parliament. Only six days later, Hermann Berthelsen called in sick and Mala took over his parliamentary seat. On November 29th, Simon Simonsen resigned as minister and left parliament for the third time within a few weeks. When he returned his parliamentary seat on April 1, 2019, Mala took over its seat this time because Jens Danielsen was unable to attend due to illness. Eight days later Nikolaj Jeremiassen resigned as minister and Mala Høy Kúko resigned a fourth time. The very next day, however, he was called to parliament for the fifth time since the election the previous year, when Jess Svane was appointed minister. After a few days, he resigned for the fifth time immediately because Jens Danielsen was able to take his place. He criticized the fact that it is difficult to plan your life when you have to switch between the office of MP in Nuuk and the profession of teacher in Tasiilaq at such short notice and frequently. On September 9, 2019, he became a member of the Inatsisartut again because Laura Táunâjik was on maternity leave, but then left because Erik Jensen resigned as minister.
