Karl Jens Thomas Danielsen (born May 21, 1959 in Nuuk ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Jens Danielsen was born in Greenland's capital, but moved to Savissivik and later to Moriusaq as a young boy and was raised as a fisherman and hunter. He therefore also speaks Inuktun . In 1992 he and Jens Jørgen “Ono” Fleischer traveled with the dog sledge from Qaanaaq or Qausuittuq to Utqiaġvik , from which a film was made. For this, both were awarded the Greenlandic Culture Prize next year . On the occasion of the climate summit in Paris in 2015 , he was on site with Mamarut Kristiansen, spoke there and drove a dog sled to the demonstration - in the absence of snow with attached wheels.

Jens Danielsen ran in the parliamentary elections in 2002 , where he could not achieve a parliamentary seat with 58 votes. In the 2005 local elections, he received the highest number of votes of all candidates in the Qaanaaq community after having served on the local council in previous years. However, he only became mayor in 2007 after Mayor Johanne Nielsen resigned. In the 2005 general election , he received 54 votes and again missed the parliamentary entry. He sat thanks to 101 votes from 2009 in the first council of the newly formed Qaasuitsup Kommunia . In 2009 he received 66 votes and was again unable to obtain a seat in parliament. In the local elections in 2013, he succeeded again in the local council with 110 votes. However, he missed that in 2017, where he only got 57 votes. However, he ran for the first time in nine years in the 2018 parliamentary elections and, at 154, got the second place in the Siumut, from which he was able to get to the Inatsisartut for the first time , as four Siumut members were appointed to the Naalakkersuisut . Because of cabinet reshuffles, he left parliament in January 2019 when Hermann Berthelsen returned from sick leave. In April 2019, however, he returned because of further government reshuffles.
