Bert Habets

Bert Habets (born January 9, 1971 ) is a Dutch manager . From 2018 to 2019 he was Chief Executive Officer at RTL Group and a member of Bertelsmann's Group Management Committee .

Life

Bert Habets, whose family was active in the international export of fruit and vegetables, was born on January 9, 1971 in the Dutch province of Limburg in Hoensbroek .

Habets studied "Economics and Law" at the University of Maastricht , where he also completed his master's degree in "Economics and Law" (tax law).

Career

Habets has been working in television since 1999.

Early years

After completing his studies at Maastricht University, Habets started a career as a banker at NIB Capital, where he worked from 1995 to 1999.

In 1999 Habets moved from NIB Capital to CLT-UFA, the later RTL Group. There he initially worked as a project manager in the area of business development before being promoted to Vice President Controlling in 2000 .

In 2001 Habets returned to the Netherlands to take on the position of CFO of the Dutch media group, which was later renamed RTL Nederland . At the age of 37, Habets was appointed CEO of RTL Nederland in February 2008, taking on responsibility for the Dutch TV channels RTL 4 , RTL 5 , RTL 7 and RTL 8 . Under his leadership, RTL Nederland expanded by taking over the on-demand service “Videoland”; the establishment of RTL MCN and a joint venture with SpotX for the Benelux region and Scandinavia .

As the successor to Anke Schäferkordt , Habets was appointed Co-CEO of the RTL Group in 2017 to manage the company together with Guillaume de Posch . Habets was also appointed Executive Director of the RTL Group Supervisory Board. He has also been a member of the Bertelsmann Group Management Committee since February 2018. In December 2017, Guillaume de Posch decided to step down as Co-CEO of RTL Group, which is why Habets led the company as sole CEO from January 2018. He was also responsible for the media group RTL Deutschland and Fremantle as well as RTL Croatia, RTL Nederland, RTL Hungary. In 2019 Habets resigned from his position for personal reasons. His successor at RTL Group was Thomas Rabe , who is also the CEO of Bertelsmann.

Honors

In 2014, Bert Habets was named “Most Influential TV Personality” by Broadcast Magazine in the Netherlands. In addition, he received the Bertelsmann Award for Outstanding Entrepreneurial Achievements in 2010, 2011 and 2012 .
