The Partii Inuit was a political party in Greenland .

history

The party was founded on January 24, 2013 by Nikku Olsen , who was previously a member of the left Inuit Ataqatigiit but saw the party as drifting too far into the center.

In the election only a few weeks after the party was founded, the party immediately managed to win two seats in parliament. The party chairman Nikku Olsen was declared ineligible for previous offenses after the election, so that he had to give up his seat to his party colleague Lars P. Mathæussen . After the election, the Inuit Party entered into a coalition government under the social democratic Siumut together with the anti-separatist-liberal Atassut . In September Matthæussen switched to Siumut, so that the Partii Inuit only had a parliamentary mandate. In October, Prime Minister Aleqa Hammond announced that the Inuit Party would no longer be part of the coalition and that Miiti Lynge was no longer a minister. In order to secure a larger majority, a cooperation agreement was made with both the Inuit Party and the Demokraatit , so that the Inuit Ataqatigiit became the only real opposition party. The Partii Inuit terminated this agreement in January 2014, as there was disagreement that some of their own committee posts had gone to the Democraatit.

In the 2014 parliamentary elections, the Inuit Party lost heavily and was no longer represented in parliament. At a press conference on March 16, 2018, it was announced that the party would be dissolved and the former party members would now ally with the Partii Naleraq.

Political orientation

When it was founded, the Partii Inuit saw themselves as the Inuit Ataqatigiit on the left. She strongly opposed the uranium mining in Greenland, which was advocated by other parties because of the increase in Greenland's economy. In addition, however, she mainly represented nationalist and anti-Danish views. She tried to ban the Danish language in Greenland and refused to speak Danish in parliament or to provide bilingual official writings. In addition, she criticized the administrative reform of 2009, in which the eighteen municipalities were merged into four. Their primary goal was to achieve the independence of Greenland as quickly as possible.
