The Issittup Partiia ( Greenlandic for "Polar Party") was a political party in Greenland .
history
The Issittup Partiia was created in February 1987 from the acquisition association founded a year earlier. The founder was the KNAPK chairman Nikolaj Heinrich , who had previously been a member of Siumut . In the year of its founding, the party received over a thousand votes and thus a seat in parliament. From 1988 the party supported the Siumut minority government together with the Atassut . In 1991 the party slipped to 2.8% of the vote, which was still enough for a seat in parliament. In the 1995 election, the party ran with only a single candidate in a constituency that received 90 votes. Then the party disappeared from the scene.
Political orientation
When it was founded, Nikolaj Heinrich stated that the political goals were that a large part of the Greenlandic companies should be privatized, since at that time 80% of the jobs were in public hands. To this end, the economy should be strengthened and education improved. Fishermen and hunters should be encouraged and hunting and catch quotas should be lifted. There was also a focus on combating alcoholism in Greenland. He saw his party positioned centrally between Siumut and Atassut. On the other hand, the party is also seen as a nationalist counterpart to Atassut.
