Nikolaj Heinrich

Nikolaj Heinrich (born January 26, 1938 in Kangillermiut ) is a Greenlandic politician and fisherman .

Life

Nikolaj Heinrich was trained as a fisherman in his youth, attended the skipper school and became a professional fisherman. In 1979 he became the main administrative member of the fishermen's and hunters' organization KNAPK , of which he became chairman in 1981.

In 1975 he was the first representative for Ulrik Rosing for KNAPK in the election for Grønlands Landsråd . In 1979 he ran for the Siumut for the first choice for Inatsisartut , but failed because of Lars Emil Johansen , Thue Christiansen and Moses Olsen . In the same year he was still representative of Finn Lynge in the elections to the European Parliament and the Folketing . In the parliamentary elections in 1983 he failed because of Lars Emil Johansen, Moses Olsen and Hans Pavia Rosing . In February 1987 he founded the Issittup Partiia party . The party entered the parliamentary elections in 1987 three months later and Nikolaj Heinrich was able to move into Inatsisartut for the first time. In 1989 Pavia Nielsen succeeded him as chairman of KNAPK. For the 1991 election he ran again and was once again given the party's sole parliamentary seat. In 1993 he ran for local elections for the Nuuk community , but could not achieve a seat. His party did not run for the 1995 election. Instead, he called on the voters of the Issittup Partiia to vote for Atassut instead . For this he finally stood himself, but could not celebrate the entry into parliament again. However, with his candidacy he became the only Greenlander who was on the ballot for three different parties. In the 1999 election, he returned to the Siumut after 16 years, but was unsuccessful. From 2007 to 2008 he surprisingly became the last mayor of Nuuk Municipality.

In addition to his political career, he continued to be a significant part of the development of the trawler fishery . On September 5, 2003, he received the Nersornaat in silver.

The opera singer Ida Heinrich (1979-2019) is his daughter.
