Finn Lynge
Finn Lynge , MEP (born April 22, 1933 in Nuuk , † April 4, 2014 in Qaqortoq ) was a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ), pastor , activist , writer and director .
Life
Finn Lynge was born in Greenland's capital and moved to Denmark as a child . After graduating from school in Lyngby , he first studied Danish and French at the University of Copenhagen from 1952 to 1955 , spent a year for his novitiate in France , became a member of the Oblates of the Immaculate Virgin Mary in 1957 and studied philosophy for three years in Rome and finally until 1963 Theology in the USA . After converting to Catholicism at the age of 19 , he was ordained in 1963 and served as a pastor until 1976. He started at the Church of the Assumption in Saint Paul , Minnesota, and then moved to Randers, Denmark . From 1965 he was the only Catholic pastor in the otherwise Lutheran Greenland, and he established Greenland's only Catholic church, the Krist Konge Kirke . From 1971 to 1974 he was also a social worker in order to improve his Greenlandic and then head of the Greenland radio station KNR . He later described his life until 1979 in his 2013 book Et langt liv på tværs ( German about A long life in quer) .
He was elected the only Greenlandic member of the European Parliament in 1979 and resigned in 1984 when Greenland left the European Union . He then worked for the Inuit Circumpolar Council . From 1987 to 1994 he was Greenland Advisor in the Danish Udenrigsministeriet . On September 4, 1993 he received the Nersornaat in silver. From 1998 to 2003 he was an advisor to the Greenland government in Copenhagen . He was also a member of the administrative board of Det Grønlandske Selskab from 1986 to 1995 and was its chairman from 1987 to 1990. From 2000 to 2003 he was a member of the Greenland Self-Government Commission. From 2001 he was also an administrative member of the Danish Foreign Policy Society. In 2003 he retired at the age of 70. During his working hours he was very noticeable as an activist for animal rights. On September 27, 2013 he was awarded the fourth honorary doctorate from the University of Greenland .
Lynge died on April 4, 2014 in Qaqortoq after being brought from Denmark to Greenland at his own request shortly before his death after a long illness. According to his wishes, the memorial service took place in Qassiarsuk , where Brattahlíð was located in the Middle Ages , where Þjóðhildr , the wife of Erik the Red , had the first church in Greenland built.

Finn Lynge was the son of the journalist Kristoffer Jonathan Ludvig Lynge (1894–1967) and the nurse Ragnhild Bugge (1901–1962). His father was the illegitimate son of the Danish volunteer Jens Aage Bergh (1869–?) With Marie Henriette Agnete Lynge. Finn's great-grandfather was the Danish lithographer Theodor Bergh (1830–1907). Ragnhild Bugge was a Greenland born Danish woman. She was the daughter of the colonial administrator Konrad Olsen Bugge (1862-1937) and his wife Hedevig Clausen (1873-1937). Finn Lynge's uncle was Aage Bugge (1896–1979). He himself married Mona Rosing Lynge (* 1953) in 1976, with whom he had three children. The son Kristoffer Rosing Lynge died in infancy. His daughters are Karina Rosing Lynge and Kristina Rosing Lynge. He later married Rie Oldenburg.
