Ida Heinrich

Ida Heinrich (* 1979 ; † February 15, 2019 ) was a Greenlandic opera singer .

Life

Ida Heinrich was the daughter of the politician Nikolaj Heinrich (* 1938). In 1993 she sang in the NIPE choir and in the Nordic women's choir in her early youth . She was discovered in 1994 by the Icelandic choir director Margrét Palmadóttir and studied mezzo-soprano at the singing school in Reykjavík from 2000 to 2006 . She accompanied Björk as a choir singer. Ida Heinrich was the first female opera singer in Greenland. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016. In 2018 she was named Greenlandic Woman of the Year and in the same year she received the Greenlandic Culture Prize . Ida Heinrich succumbed to cancer in early 2019 at the age of 39 and left behind two children.
