Framsókn is a liberal party in the Faroe Islands . Literally translated, Framsókn means progress . Since mid-September 2015, the party has been part of the Faroese state government in a coalition with Javnaðarflokkurin and Tjóðveldi .

history

The party was founded on March 9, 2011 at a meeting of around 100 to 120 interested citizens, including former members of the Fólkaflokkurin . Poul Michelsen , the former mayor of Tórshavn , was one of the driving forces here.

In the Løgtings election at the end of October 2011, the party received 6.3 percent of the vote. Framsókn was able to take two seats in Løgting. Poul Michelsen, who received 581 personal votes, and Janus Rein, who received 250 personal votes. Just one year later, Janus Rein left the party because he had fallen out with Poul Michelsen. However, he kept his seat as a non-party member of parliament, so that Framsókn was only represented by one member in the Løgting for the rest of the legislative period. In September 2013 Janus Rein joined the Fólkaflokkurin as a member of parliament.

In the Løgting election in early September 2015, the party was able to improve its result and received 7.0 percent of the vote. Framsókn is again represented by two members of the Løgting. This time with Poul Michelsen who received 669 personal votes and Hanna Jensen with 201 personal votes. Hanna Jensen is also the deputy chairwoman of Framsókn.

After the successful course of the coalition negotiations between Javnaðarflokkurin , Tjóðveldi and Framsókn, Framsókn was given the Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as the field of foreign affairs. Poul Michelsen was nominated by the party for this ministerial post. Since Poul Michelsen is therefore a member of the new state government , whose members are not entitled to vote in the Løgting, Ruth Vang was named by the party at the opening session of the Løgting on September 15 to replace the vacant seat of parliament.

On September 17, 2015, President Páll á Reynatúgvu announced that Annika Olsen , who left the Fólkaflokkurin on September 9 , had informed him that after a week as an independent MP she had joined the Framsókn progressive party, which is why the parliamentary group of the Party is now composed of three MPs.

Since Poul Michelsen had to give up his seat in Løgting because of his ministerial office and had given it to a successor, the new addition resulted in a three-member parliamentary group in Løgting, which consisted exclusively of women: Ruth Vang, Hanna Jensen and Annika Olsen.

But just three days after joining, Annika Olsen announced on September 20, 2015 that she had resigned from the Progress Party with immediate effect and had also resigned from chairing the Finance Committee. As a reason for her move, she stated that she had been under heavy pressure in the past few days and that the time to think about the change of party was too short. You can no longer justify this to your voters. She also announced that she had submitted an application to Parliament for a temporary leave of absence.

The chairmanship of the finance committee was then taken over by Ruth Vang and thus remained in the Progress Party.
