Anaa [ aˈnaː ] (according to the old spelling Anâ ) is a desolate, fallen Greenlandic settlement in the Ilulissat district in the Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Anaa is on mainland Greenland on the south bank of the Torsukattak fjord . The closest one that is still inhabited today is Qeqertaq , located 27 km to the west.

history

Little is known about Anaa. The place did not exist in 1883. It is said that the hunter and reader Vittus Petersen, who lived in Anaa , wanted to sell his hunt in Qeqertaq instead of Ataa . From this it can be concluded that the residential area belonged to the Ataa community at that time. On September 26, 1900, the Forstanderskab of Ilulissat dealt with the matter and declined the request. Anaa is no longer listed as an inhabited place on a map from 1918, from which it can be concluded that the place of residence was already vacant at this point in time. However, the border between the colonial districts of Ritenbenk and Jakobshavn runs in such a way that Anaa no longer belonged to Ataa, but rather to Qeqertaq.
