BoxToGo ( Engl . " Box to take away ") is a proprietary mobile app for the popular in Germany Internet router Fritz! Box . The app is only available for smartphones and tablets with the Android operating system . BoxToGo was not developed by the Fritz! Box manufacturer AVM , but by the Berlin software developer Alexander Miehlke (AlMiSoft).

Versions

The current BoxToGo version 3.3.4 is supported from Android 4.0. Support for Apple iOS is not planned. BoxToGo is offered in a functionally limited free version (“BoxToGo Free”) and a full version (“BoxToGo Pro”) that is subject to a fee. Almost all - including older - models of the Fritz! Box with Fritz! OS from 04.87 are supported.

Interested customers can participate in the further development of BoxToGo as part of beta tests.

Functions

AVM itself offers several free solutions for remote control of the Fritz! Box routers ("Fritz! Apps"), but these are only limited to basic functions. According to AlMiSoft, AVM offers 18 functions for the Fritz! Box, while BoxToGo in the Pro version contains over 130 functions.

The core functions of BoxToGo are the management of calls, call diversions, answering machines , telephone book, WLAN, home network, smart home, online monitor and child safety.

In addition, BoxToGo Pro u. a. the support of several Fritz! Boxes, identification of the caller by reverse search , call blocking and identification of advertising callers , voice output , various widgets , fax transmission and remote access to wake up ( Wake On Lan ), restart and shutdown your own PC or server.

Dissemination and reception

According to the Google Play Store , BoxToGo Pro has been downloaded about 50,000 times. Around 10,000 users rated BoxToGo Pro on the platform. Overall, BoxToGo Pro achieved an above-average rating of 4.7 out of 5 possible stars. BoxToGo Free has a distribution of around 100,000 downloads and a rating of 4.3 stars from around 3,000 users. (As of October 2019).

CHIP editor Joerg Geiger recommends the use of BoxToGo and sums it up in his review: "Somehow with the app you get the feeling that the functional diversity of the FritzBox is revealed on the Android smartphone."
