Inverse search

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a reverse search or reverse search is called a kind of telephone directory assistance , not like one belonging to a combination of name and address in the traditional sense number is searched. Instead, the inquirer can ask for the name and address of a known phone number.

After the inverse search was forbidden for a long time in Germany for reasons of data protection law (in Section 14 (4) of the Telecommunications Data Protection Regulation , which has since been repealed ), the inverse search has been officially possible in Germany since the end of 2004, as long as the requirements of Section 105 Telecommunications Act (TKG) are met.

However, connection owners can object to such use of their own data. Some consumer advice centers advise consumers to do so. As a rule, the various telephone providers offer their customers the option of unsubscribing from the reverse search via their websites. The reverse search can also be contradicted with an informal letter or fax stating the full address, the customer number and the booking account number.

In addition to telephone information, telephone information programs with this function already existed before, but they had to be deactivated again due to data protection problems. In addition, there were updates or cracks for telephone directory assistance programs from various providers, which enabled an inverse search with these programs or their databases.
