The Telecommunications Data Protection Ordinance was a regulation of the German federal government that was valid until 2004 and regulated the protection of personal data by telecommunications providers . It was enacted in 2000 on the basis of the Telecommunications Act and replaced the Telecommunications Service Company Data Protection Regulation .

It was determined which connection data from service providers - e.g. B. Deutsche Telekom - were allowed to be saved and when they were to be deleted again. There were also regulations on the individual connection verification , the transmission of telephone numbers as well as telephone book entries and telephone information .

In 2004 the essential provisions of the Telecommunications Data Protection Ordinance were incorporated into the Telecommunications Act (TKG 2004). Since then, data protection in the telecommunications sector has been regulated in Sections 91–107 TKG 2004.

With the integration of the data protection regulations into the Telecommunications Act, a longstanding concern of data protectionists has been taken into account. These had called for data protection in telecommunications to be regulated by a formal law passed by the Bundestag and not just by a ministerial ordinance.

The telecommunications data protection regulation expired on June 26, 2004 ( Section 152 (2) TKG).
