Lauren Tamayo (born October 25, 1983 in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania ) is a former American cyclist who was active on track and road .

Athletic career

Lauren Tamayo grew up in Allentown and began cycling at the age of twelve on the velodrome at the nearby Valley Preferred Cycling Center . But she also competed in races on the road . She later founded the Victory Brewing cycling team with her husband Mike Tamayo , which existed until 2006. In 2014, she moved to the UnitedHealthcare Women's Team , which was managed by her husband.

On the track, Tamayo was mainly successful in team pursuit . She has been on the podium several times with the American team in races of the Track Cycling World Cup . At the UCI Track World Championships 2010 in Ballerup , she finished fourth together with Sarah Hammer and Dotsie Bausch, and in the same year she won the gold medal with the same riders at the Pan-American Cycling Championships in Aguascalientes . The team set a new world record of 3.19.569 minutes, which lasted until April 2012. At the 2012 World Track Championships in Melbourne , the team reached fifth place.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Lauren Tamayo won the silver medal in the team pursuit together with Sarah Hammer and Dotsie Bausch. In 2015 she won the silver medal in the team pursuit at the Pan-American championships together with Kelly Catlin , Sarah Hammer and Jennifer Valente . At the end of the 2016 season, Tamayo ended her active cycling career.
