Laura Brown (born November 27, 1986 in Calgary ) is a former Canadian cyclist who was active and successful as an all-rounder in various disciplines on the track and in road cycling .

Athletic career

Laura Brown began her sports activities with gymnastics . After an injury, she looked for another suitable sport in 2002, and her mother enrolled the 14-year-old daughter for the Fast and the Curious program at the National Cycling Center in Calgary.

In 2008, Laura Brown was the Canadian track team chase champion with Jennifer Trew and Stephanie Roorda ; in the single pursuit she took third place. The following year she was also third in the individual time trial at national championships . At the UCI Track World Championships 2010 in Ballerup near Copenhagen , she finished sixth with the Canadian track four (with Tara Whitten and Roorda); at the Pan-American Championships in Aguascalientes she was fifth in the individual time trial.

Brown was Canadian champion a second time when she won the team sprint with Roorda ; in the Omnium , she took second place. At the Pan American Games in Guadalajara , she won the gold medal in the team pursuit with Roorda and Jasmin Glaesser , and she came third in the individual time trial.

At the UCI Track World Championships 2013 in Minsk , Laura Brown won the bronze medal in the team pursuit together with Jasmin Glaesser and Gillian Carleton , and the following year the Canadian quartet with Brown with Allison Beveridge , Jasmin Glaesser and Stephanie Roorda became vice world champion in the team pursuit . In the 2014/15 season, she had to take a break due to injuries after a fall. In 2015, the Canadian team won the team pursuit at the Pan American Games with Brown .

In 2016, Brown was nominated to participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Together with Allison Beveridge , Jasmin Glaesser , Kirsti Lay and Georgia Simmerling , she won the bronze medal in the team pursuit. Since she had been a member of the national team since 2009, her comrades called her Grandma Brown .
