Owain Daniel John Doull , MBE (born May 2, 1993 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh cyclist who is active on track and road . In 2016 he became Olympic champion in the team pursuit .

Athletic career

Owain Doull started cycling in 2005 after trying various other sports. In 2007 he was accepted into the British Cycling's Olympic Talent Program and later into the Olympic Development Program . In 2010 he won the silver medal in the team pursuit at the Junior Track World Championships in Montichiari with the British team made up of Sam Harrison , Daniel McLay , and Simon Yates . In the same year he was also British junior champion in points driving and vice champion in junior road racing.

At the 2011 European Junior Track Championships in Anadia , Doull won three medals: a gold medal in the team pursuit with Jonathan Dibben , Joshua Papworth and Samuel Lowe and a silver medal in the singles pursuit and bronze in the Omnium . At the Commonwealth Youth Games , he finished second in the road race and third in the team time trial. In 2012 he became British champion in the single pursuit of the elite, in the team pursuit and runner-up in the points race. At the UCI Track World Championships in 2012 in Minsk , he finished fifth in the scratch and eleventh place in the two-man team driving together with Simon Yates. In 2013 Owain Doull won European team pursuit with Steven Burke , Ed Clancy and Andrew Tennant in Apeldoorn . In 2016, Doull was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and won the gold medal in the team pursuit.

After the Olympic Games, Owain Doull shifted his sporting focus to road cycling. In 2017 he won the overall ranking of the Hammer Sportzone Limburg race with Team Sky , and at the road world championships it won bronze in the team time trial with Doull . In 2019, Doull won one stage of the Herald Sun Tour .
