Alexander Sergejewitsch Serow ( Russian Александр Сергеевич Серов , English Alexander Serov ; born November 12, 1982 in Vyborg , Leningrad Oblast , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is a former Russian cyclist and later sports director .

Career

At the Track Cycling World Cup 2006/2007 in Sydney Serow first won the single pursuit in the final against the German Robert Bengsch and the next day with the national team the team pursuit . He achieved further World Cup victories with the Russian team in 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. At the UCI Track World Championships in 2010 Serow took fourth place in the single pursuit.

On the road, Serow won a stage of the Tour of Britain in 2007, his first race on the international road calendar. He competed in the 2008 Giro d'Italia for the Professional Continental Team Tinkoff Credit System and finished this Grand Tour as 124th. In his second participation in 2009 he was 117 for the UCI ProTeam Katusha and 128 for the Giro d'Italia 2016 for Gazprom-RusVelo. 2011 Serov won a stage of the Flèche du Sud , in 2012 a stage of the Vuelta a Murcia and in 2013 a stage each of the Tour of Portugal and the Vuelta a Costa Rica .

In 2017, Serov became Assistant Athletic Director for his last team as an active, Gazprom-RusVelo .
