Valery Olegowitsch Kaikow ( Russian Валерий Олегович Кайков ; born May 7, 1988 in Tolyatti ) is a former Russian track and road cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2008 Valery Kaikow won a stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a León . With the Russian four-man track consisting of Artur Jerschow , Leonid Krasnow and Vladimir Schtschekunow , he won the team pursuit at the World Cup in Cali . In the single pursuit , he decided the overall ranking of this World Cup season for himself. In 2009 he was with Artur Jerschow, Jewgeni Kowaljow and Alexander Petrowski U23 European champions in the team pursuit. In 2010 he was able to repeat this success with Yershov, Sergei Schilow and Sergei Tschernezki and was also U23 European champion in the single pursuit. In 2012 he became European elite champions in the team pursuit with Jerschow, Alexei Markow and Alexander Serow .
On the road, Kaikow became the Russian U23 individual time trial champion . In 2011 he and his team won the team time trial at the Universiade in Shenzhen as well as a stage of the Tour of Bulgaria .
Doping incident
Kaikow was tested positive for the prohibited substance GW501516 on March 17, 2013 during a doping control carried out outside of a competition and was suspended by the UCI in April 2013 . GW501516 is a preparation available on the black market, the use of which the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA expressly warned in March 2013 because of the acute risk of poisoning. Kaikow was banned for two years. Then he did not return to cycling.
