Murcia tour

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tour of Murcia ( Spanish Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia ) is a cycle race that was held every year from 1981 to 2012 in Murcia, southern Spain, as a stage race . It was an amateur race until 1986 and a national competition until 1989.

In 2007, the tour was initially canceled because the organizer could not find enough sponsors to finance the tour after Spanish television had withdrawn. In the end, however, enough sponsors were found and the race could take place as planned. However, it was shortened from five to three days and finally to two days. From 2013 to 2018 the race took place as a one-day race and is classified in UCI category 1.1. In 2019, the race was again held as a stage race and classified in category 2.1.
