Kevin Nichols
Kevin John Nichols (born July 4, 1955 in Grafton ) is a retired Australian cyclist .
From 1974 Kevin Nichols was successful with the Australian four-man track : In 1974 the team won the silver medal at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch and the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games four years later in Edmonton . At the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane , Nichols achieved a double triumph: Together with the four, he won a second gold medal in the team pursuit, he alone gold over ten miles .
At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Nichols won the gold medal in the team pursuit with the Australian team ( Michael Grenda , Michael Turtur and Dean Woods ) . Nichols, who had already decided to retire from cycling before the Games, was persuaded by an association representative to start in Los Angeles in order to lead the newly formed foursome as an experienced man. Since he was the oldest in the team at 29, he was called "Grandpa" by his younger teammates.
Kevin Nichols holds the Order of Australia . His daughter is the cyclist Kate Nichols .
