Gintautas Umaras

Gintautas Umaras (born May 20, 1963 in Kaunas ) is a former Lithuanian cyclist .

Life

Umaras studied at the Aleksonis Middle School in Žaliakalnis . As a cyclist he started for the Dynamo Klaipeda club.

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul he won a gold medal in the 4000 m individual pursuit and gold in the 4000 m team pursuit (with the USSR team ). At the 1991 World Championships in Stuttgart , he won the gold medal in the 1000 m time trial on the track, and also held the world record in this discipline at the time. In 1989 and 1990 Umaras was a professional driver, first in Italy, then in the USA.

Umaras completed a degree in sports journalism .
