Jiří Daler (born March 8, 1940 in Brno ) is a former Czech cyclist who started for Czechoslovakia and was particularly successful in track cycling .

Athletic career

Daler started for the club Favorit Brno . Daler made his international debut at the 1962 UCI Road World Championships in the 100 km team time trial , where he finished ninth. In 1963 he was part of the Czech team of the Tour de l'Avenir amateur tour . At the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964 , he won the gold medal in the 4,000-meter single pursuit and reached fifth place in the team pursuit, and 67th place in the road race. At the UCI track world championships , he won a total of five medals in the individual and team pursuit. In 1968 Daler again took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico City , but failed in the single pursuit in the qualification; with the team he was again fifth. In 1969 and 1970 Daler was a professional in road cycling and competed in smaller tours and one-day races in France , but without achieving a victory. He started in 1969 in Zolder, Belgium at the UCI World Championships in road racing as the only professional driver in his country and was 49th in the race.

He was the first Czechoslovak driver who went to Western Europe, became a professional driver and even competed in some six-day races. After his career as a professional driver, he returned to his homeland.

Professional

Daler completed an apprenticeship as an electrical engineer.

Honors

In 1966 and 1967, Daler was the winner of the annual survey for the Král cyklistiky ( cycling king ) of the Československý svaz cyklistiky cycling association.
