The Saulės Gymnasium Kaunas ( Saulė dt. ' Sun '; lit. Kauno "Saulės" gimnazija ) is a general education school in the second largest Lithuanian city ​​of Kaunas . After 12 classes it leads to the Abitur exam, with which the university entrance qualification is achieved. The Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius University is a cooperation partner of the school.

history

Since 1906 the "Saulės" educational association, which was founded in the same year, secretly organized teacher courses, which were legalized in 1907 in what was then tsarist Russia. The leader was Juozas Vokietaitis . From 1912 to 1913 the “Saulės” Palace Kaunas was built. The teacher courses became a teacher training college there . From 1919 there was also the first Kaunas music school in the palace , directed by the composer Juozas Naujalis .

In 1923 founded the first Lithuanian girls grammar school with 27 pupils. In 1926 it became the “Saulės” girls' high school . In 1930 the high school was taken over by the Saulės Educational Association. It belonged to the Kazimieras Catholic Congregation of Nuns. In the school year 1937/1938 there were 500 female students. In 1940 the school became the eighth high school in Kaunas, in 1950 the eighth secondary school in Kaunas, and in 1963 the Juozas-Aleksonis school. From 1989 she was "Saulės" middle school. Since 1993 it has been a grammar school again. The Žaliakalnis elementary school in Kaunas emerged from the school .

In 2010, 7 high school graduates got 100 points (best result) in the state high school exams. In 2012, the tea holder manufacturer “Tyfrendai” was recognized as the best student company by the non-profit business education organization Junior Achievement . In 2013, the grammar school graduate Gerda Gerulskytė became the runner-up “Mis Kaunas 2013”. In 2014, the geography and economics teacher Laima Girdauskienė was honored by Mayor Andrius Kupčinskas as the annual teacher of the city of Kaunas .
