Dainius Pavalkis
Dainius Pavalkis (* 1960 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian proctologist , professor and former politician who was Lithuania's Minister of Education from 2012 to 2015 .
Life
After graduating from the Aleksonis Middle School in Žaliakalnis in 1978 , Pavalkis studied medicine at the Kauno medicinos institutas (KMI) in 1984 and received his doctorate at the Institute of Proctology in Moscow . From 1981 he worked in the second hospital in Kaunas and from 1986 at the KMI as an assistant, senior assistant, lecturer and since 2006 as a professor. From 1997 to 2010 he was head of the Coloproctology Sector at the SME Surgery Clinic. In 1995 he became senior surgeon at Kaunas University Hospital .
From December 2012 to May 2015 Pavalkis was the Lithuanian Minister of Education and Science in the Butkevičius cabinet . Pavalkis was appointed and discharged by the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė .
Pavalkis was a member of the Naujoji sąjunga party and, from 2011, the Darbo partija .
Pavalkis is married to the architect Edita. They have son Gintautas and daughter Dainora.
