The district of Kaunas (German district of Kauen ) is one of the ten administrative districts in the center of Lithuania , which have formed the top tier of the Lithuanian regional authorities since 1994.

It includes parts of the historical regions of Upper Lithuania ( Aukšaitija ) and Suwalken ( Suvalkija ).

From 1994 to June 30, 2010 there was a district manager administration ( apskrities viršininko administracija ).
