The Klaipėda district (German Memel district ) is one of the ten administrative districts that formed the top tier of the administrative division of Lithuania . From 1994 to June 30, 2010 there was the administration and head of the Klaipėda District. The Memel District used to exist in the southern Klaipėda region .
It covers the entire Baltic coast of Lithuania, part of the historical regions Memelland and Lower Lithuania ( Schemeitien / Žemaitija ). The district borders Latvia to the north and Russia to the south .
