Juozas Vokietaitis (born September 30, 1872 in Bevardiškiai , Wolost Padovinys , now Marijampolė municipality , † December 15, 1931 in Berlin ) was a Lithuanian musician, choir conductor and politician .

Life

Vokietaitis attended the primary school in Daukšiai and from 1887 to 1890 the teacher training college in Veiveriai . He worked as a teacher in Lodsch ( Poland ). From 1907 he lived in Kaunas . From 1907 to 1914 he led the teacher courses of the "Saulės" association, taught music and led the choir. From 1918 he was a member of the council of the municipality of Kaunas . During the First World War he lived in Russia . In Voronezh he led a choir. From 1918 to 1925 he was director of the Saulės Teachers' Seminar. He taught psychology, pedagogy, and pedagogical history. From 1919 to 1931 he was director of the primary education department at the Lithuanian Ministry of Education . In 1931 he was mayor of the municipality of Kaunas.

His brother was Antanas Vokietaitis (1877-1950).
