Lietuvos naujienų agentūra ELTA is the national news agency in Lithuania .
history
It was built on April 1, 1920 in Kaunas . It was directed by the literature professor and publicist Juozas Eretas . From 1920 to 1940 ELTA had connections with Reuters , DNB , Havas , Stefani and TASS . There were departments for foreign, domestic and economic, photography and sport services. From 1940 ELTA was part of TASS . ELTA has had its headquarters in Vilnius since 1944 . It has been a company ( Akcinė bendrovė ) since 1995 .
In 2004, 57.93% of the shares in the “ MG Baltic ” concern were sold to “Žinių partneriai ” for 5,764 million litas (90% of the shares belong to Vitas Tomkus , the publisher of the daily newspaper “ Respublika ”).
