Justas Paleckis
Justas Paleckis (born January 10, jul. / 22. January 1899 greg. In Telšiai ; † 26 January 1980 in Vilnius ) was a sowjetlitauischer politician , Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (LSSR) and First Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the LSSR from 1940 to 1967.
Life
Politically on the USSR -oriented public person Paleckis was Soviet proclaimed pressure on 17 June 1940 as Chairman of the Lithuanian People's Government and President while Antanas Merkys the Lithuania President of the Republic had to cede that he was only two days earlier by the dictator Antanas Smetona transferred got.
As a collaborator , Paleckis contributed to the fact that after the occupation of Lithuania , the Soviet Union was able to assert its power on the territory by means of organs controlled from Moscow and fought the structures of Lithuanian society that were built up under Smetona and oriented towards Italian fascism. Justas Paleckis later became chairman of the government of the Lithuanian Soviet Republic.
His son Justas Vincas Paleckis was a member of the European Parliament and an active pro-European.
