Andrey Amador
Andrey Amador Bikazakova (born August 29, 1986 in San José ) is a Costa Rican cyclist .
Athletic career
After Amador won a stage at the Vuelta a Navarra in 2007 and at the Tour de l'Avenir in 2008, he signed a contract with the Spanish ProTeam Caisse d'Epargne for 2009 . He achieved his best results for this cycling team at the Giro d'Italia .
Amador achieved his first success in the UCI WorldTour in 2012 on the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2012 , the first high mountain stage of the Tour of Italy. On the mountain arrival in Cervinia he prevailed in the final sprint ahead of Jan Bárta and Alessandro De Marchi , with whom he was able to pull away on the descent of the first mountain of the stage. It was the first day victory for a Costa Rican at the Giro d'Italia.
At the Giro d'Italia 2015 Amador drove for the first time in a Grand Tour for the top places in the overall standings and finally finished fourth overall 8:10 minutes behind the winner Alberto Contador .
At the Giro d'Italia 2016 , Amador took over the Maglia Rosa after the 13th stage , making him the first Costa Rican to wear this leadership jersey. He was still in the service of his captain Alejandro Valverde and lost the lead of the race to Steven Kruijswijk on the following stage . Amador finished eighth in the overall ranking of the Tour of Italy.
In December 2016, Amador trained illegally on the highway between San José and Escazú in his home country . The traffic police then requisitioned his racing bike.
