Steven Kruijswijk (born June 7, 1987 in Nuenen ) is a Dutch cyclist .
Career
Kruijswijk was the Dutch U23 road champion in 2009 and switched to the UCI ProTeam Rabobank the following year , for whose farm team Rabobank Continental he had been driving since 2007.
In 2010 Steven Kruijswijk received a professional contract with the UCI WorldTeam Rabobank . He took top positions in the "Grand Tours" , in particular eighth place at the Giro d'Italia 2011 and seventh place at the Giro d'Italia 2015 . In 2011, as a soloist at the Tour de Suisse , he won the mountain finish of the 6th stage and thus his first race in the UCI WorldTour .
In 2012, Kruijswijk competed in the Tour de France for the first time . In 2014 he won the overall ranking of the Norwegian cycle race Arctic Race of Norway . In 2015 he finished seventh in the final score of the Giro d'Italia and also wore the blue jersey of the leader in the mountain classification for three days .
Kruijswijk missed his greatest career success to date at the Giro d'Italia 2016 , when he drove four days in the overall leader's Maglia Rosa with a lead of three minutes, but fell on a descent of the mountainous 19th stage to Risoul and rolled over. He lost 4:54 minutes to the day and eventual overall winner Vincenzo Nibali . Kruijswijk finally came fourth overall. In addition, Kruijswijk was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and came in 39th in the road race.
In the following years, Kruijswij achieved top placings in the Grand Tours : He was ninth in the Vuelta a España 2017 , fifth in the Tour de France 2018 , fourth in the Vuelta a España 2018 and third in the Tour de France 2019 .
