Mads Würtz Schmidt (born March 31, 1994 in Randers ) is a Danish cyclist .

Career

Mads Würtz Schmidt became world champion in the junior individual time trial in his home country . 2012 won the Driedaagse van Axel . There were also successes at Paris – Roubaix in the junior class and at the International Peace Tour . In 2015 he was crowned world champion in the individual time trial for the second time , this time in the U23 class. Before that, in the same year he had won the junior competition and a stage of the Tour of Denmark , a stage of the Tour de l'Avenir and the Danish championship in the U23 individual time trial. In 2016, Würtz Schmidt was able to repeat his victory in the youth competition and one stage in the Tour of Denmark .

Due to his results, he switched to the Katusha Alpecin team in 2017 . At Rund um Köln 2017 , he came second behind Gregor Mühlberger from an escape group. He contested the 2018 Giro d'Italia , the first Grand Tour of his career, which he finished in 81st place.
