UCI Women's WorldTour

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UCI Women's WorldTour (WWT) is an established series of cycle races by the UCI World Cycling Association in women's cycling , which will be held for the first time in 2016 . It replaces the women's cycling world cup , which was organized from 1998 to 2015.

The 20 best UCI women's teams are invited to this racing series . In addition, the organizers of the individual races have the opportunity to increase the field of participants through their own invitations. The aim of the racing series is to further professionalize women's cycling.

After the first event in 2016, the UCI drew a positive conclusion: a total of 35 racing days were on the program from March 5 ( Strade Bianche ) to September 11 ( Madrid Challenge ), 60 percent more than at the World Cup the year before. Of these, 13 one-day and four stage races were held in Europe, China and the USA. Nine races were televised live, highlight clips of five other races were shown on free TV, and there was a huge increase in social media. The athletes also praised the new format.
