Blue Cross Shield Tower (also Blue Cross- Blue Shield Tower ) is a skyscraper in the US city of Chicago . The building is home to Health Care Service Corporation , the largest licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield name in the United States.

In 1997, a 174 meter high section with 37 floors of the building was completed, at the end of 2007 further floors began to be built, the final height of 227 meters was reached in 2009. The complete completion was in February 2010. The building has 54 floors, which are only to be used for offices. Not far from the Blue Cross Shield Tower is the Aon Center , built in 1973 , which is significantly higher at 346 meters. The facade was completely clad with glass. The load-bearing elements of the building are made of steel with the exception of the building core , which is made of reinforced concrete . In the core of the building there are lifts, cables and supply shafts, as well as stairwells.
