Maria Wilhelmina Johanna "Mirjam" Melchers , married . Mirjam Melchers-van Poppel , (born  September 26, 1975 in Arnhem ) is a former Dutch cyclist who was active on the road and in cyclo-cross races.

For over ten years Mirjam Melchers was one of the strongest road cyclists in the Netherlands. During this time she became Dutch champion five times, both in road racing and cyclocross . In 2003 she won the title of vice world champion in road racing, in the same year she won the overall ranking of the Emakumeen Bira . In 2001 she won the Thuringia Tour , 2004 the Holland Ladies Tour and 2005 the Ster Zeeuwsche Eilanden . In 2005 and 2006 she won the Ronde van Vlaanderen . In 2001 and 2002 she was second in the overall World Cup, in 2000 and 2005 third. In addition, she was able to win numerous smaller races in the course of her career. In 2005 she was also third at the Cyclocross World Championships in St. Wendel .

In 2008 Melchers became Dutch champion in the cyclo-cross race and in the individual time trial .

Mirjam Melchers took part in the Olympic Games three times, in 2000 , 2004 and 2008 ; her best finish was a sixth place at the 2004 Athens Games in road racing.

Mirjam Melchers is married to the former cyclist Jean-Paul van Poppel , who was most recently the head of her team. Since retiring from active cycling, she has been working as a personal trainer .
