Mieke Havik (born January 18, 1957 in Volendam ) is a former Dutch cyclist. In 1984 she was the first female athlete to win the yellow jersey at the first Grande Boucle Féminine .

Athletic career

Mieke Havik was active as a cyclist from the 1970s to 1987. She was twice Dutch champion in the omnium on the track and in her last active year Dutch road champion. In the course of her career she achieved 98 victories.

In 1984 Havik started at the first Grande Boucle Féminine . She won the first stage and was therefore the first to wear the yellow leadership jersey on this tour. In 1983 she set a world record over 100 kilometers in Ahoy in Rotterdam , which she mastered in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 30 seconds.

On February 6, 1987, Mieke Havik tackled the world hour record on the cycling track in Vienna's Ferry-Dusika-Hallenstadion , but was fetched from the track halfway through by her supervisors; Observers spoke of a "drama". The record attempt was preceded by conflicts between their supervisors, and the mechanics are said to have put together a larger translation without their knowledge, so that it did not get into their rhythm. Havik: “The intensive voorbereiding had te veel van me. Ik was over een grens heen ggaan, opgebrand. The burn out heeft me duidelijk according to the fact that it never comes with wilskracht alleen. Ik heb het seizoen nog afgemaakt. Daarna ben ik stopped abruptly. ”(“ I was overwhelmed with the intensive preparation for this. I had crossed the border, burned out. This burn-out made it clear to me that willpower alone is not important. ”) Finished the same year her active cycling career after she had become Dutch road champion.

Havik has struggled with back pain over the past few years as a cyclist. Through her physiotherapist, she came into contact with haptotherapy , a pain therapy developed in the Netherlands. She trained herself in this healing treatment and opened her own practice in Heeze .
