Lorena Wiebes (born March 17, 1999 in Mijdrecht ) is a Dutch cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2016 Lorena Wiebes became two-time Dutch junior champion, in road racing and in scratch on the track. The following year she was European junior champion in road racing in Herning, Denmark . In addition, she won three stages and the overall ranking of the Junior Healthy Aging Tour .
In her first year in the adult sector, 2018, Wiebes received a three-year contract with the UCI Women's Team Parkhotel Valkenburg and won four races on the international calendar. In 2019 she won two UCI Women's WorldTour competitions with the overall ranking of the Tour of Chongming Island and Prudential RideLondon Classique . In the overall ranking of the UCI Women's WorldTour 2019 , she was named the best young rider. In the same year she won, among other things, the road race of the European Games in Minsk and shortly afterwards became Dutch road champion. At the end of the season, Wiebes led the UCI world rankings .
Wiebes achieved her 15 victories in 2019, partly with little support from the Parkhotel team, which focuses on promoting young talent, and because of this, had to defend the lead in various stage races without success. Wiebes then wanted to leave the team for the 2010 season and threatened not to contest any races in 2020. Thereupon the management sued Wiebes in a state court and the Union Cycliste Internationale confirmed that Wiebes was not allowed to conclude a contract with another team due to the valid contract. At the beginning of 2020, the team and Wiebes announced that they had agreed that Wiebes would continue to drive for Parkhotel "for the time being". On June 1, 2020, she switched to the Sunweb team .
