Victoria Barnes , née Williamson , (born September 15, 1993 ) is a British track cyclist who specializes in short-term disciplines.

Athletic career

Victoria Williamson began her athletic career with athletics . She started cycling at the age of 15 through the British Girls4Gold program and was soon accepted into the Olympic Cycling Development Program . In 2010 she became British Junior Champion.

In 2010 Victoria Williamson was vice European junior champion in Saint Petersburg . In the following year, she also won three silver medals at the junior European Track Championships: in the 500-meter time trial , in the sprint and in the team sprint (together with Jessica Crampton ). In the same year she was runner-up in the junior sprint world champion at the Krylatskoje Velodrome in Moscow . In 2012 she finished second in the team sprint at the European Track Championships (U23) together with Rebecca James . At the British Track Championships, she was second in both the time trial and the sprint.

From 2013 Williamson also started internationally in the elite. At the track world championships in Minsk that same year , she immediately won her first medal in this class and, together with Rebecca James, took third place in the team sprint.

In January 2016, Victoria Williamson competed in the women's keirin competition at the six days in Rotterdam . She collided with the Dutchwoman Elis Ligtlee , fell, broke her pelvis, several vertebrae and suffered deep cuts; Ligtlee suffered a concussion and a broken cheekbone. The race was then canceled. Original fears that Williamson might be paralyzed were not confirmed. It wasn't until January 2017, after almost a year of rehabilitation , that the doctors gave their consent that Williamson could resume her cycling training. Her sporting goal was to take part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , which she could not achieve.

In 2019 Williamson started for the first time after her serious injury at the British track championships and finished third in the team sprint together with Luisa Steele .
