Simona Krupeckaitė (born December 13, 1982 in Utena , Lithuanian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Lithuanian cyclist . She does track cycling in short-term disciplines and is one of the strongest athletes here.
Athletic career
Simona Krupeckaitė has been internationally active since 2003. Her favorite disciplines are the short-term sprint , keirin , 500 m time trial and team sprint . She took numerous top places in World Cups , European and World Championships. Her greatest success so far was winning the title at the UCI Track World Championships 2009 in Pruszków in the time trial over 500 m; she set a new world record (33.296 seconds). Both in 2009 and 2010 , Krupeckaitė and Gintarė Gaivenytė finished third in the team sprint at the World Track Championships, and in Keirin in 2010 she won the world championship.
At the Moscow Grand Prix on May 29, 2010 Simona Krupeckaitė set a new world record over 200 meters with a flying start of 10.793 seconds. With that she broke Olga Slyusareva's 17-year-old record of 10.831 seconds.
In 2016 Krupeckaitė was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished twelfth in the keirin and seventh in the sprint. In the same year she became European sprint champion.
Honors
In 2009, 2010 and 2016 Krupeckaitė was named Lithuania's Sportswoman of the Year .
