Bernhard Maaz
Bernhard Maaz (* 1961 in Jena ) is a German art historian .
Life
Bernhard Maaz studied art studies with a minor in archeology at the University of Leipzig from 1981 to 1986 . In 1991 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the sculptor Friedrich Tieck .
In 1986 he became a research assistant at the Staatliche Museen Berlin , then curator and from 2003 head of the Alte Nationalgalerie . He was responsible for their general renovation as a construction consultant from 1998 to 2001. After the renovation, he headed the new presentation of the plants.
From January 1, 2010 to March 2015, he was director of the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the Kupferstichkabinett of the Dresden State Art Collections . The merging of the offices associated with this appointment was critically discussed. Maaz also became Deputy General Director of the State Art Collections.
Since April 1, 2015, Maaz has been General Director of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen and thus the head of the three Munich Pinakotheken, the Schack Collection, the Brandhorst Collection and the 12 State Galleries.
Maaz curated art exhibitions in Brussels , Dublin , Berlin , Munich , Bremen and Dresden , among others . He is the author of numerous publications on painting, sculpture and museum buildings.
